Each ripple — another glimpse
This spatial narrative has been conceived for the group exhibition Beloved Waters, curated by Leana Boven. It took place at Stroom Den Haag in the period May 23 - August 17, 2025.
As a continuation of the research “Dowsing across Fields”, this intervention takes the form of a series of sculptural elements crafted entirely from aluminium. In dialogue with the works of other artists and Stroom’s exhibition spaces, these sculptures form a landscape that accompanies the visitors’ experience into the ripples of water.
Water is never neutral. It shapes and is shaped by bodies, structures, and environments. The way it engages with other entities exposes their character in return—whether welcoming, exploitative, celebratory, or resistant. In this sense, water becomes a mirror, reflecting our self-perception, our humanity, and the porosity of our societies.
The landscape unfolds starting from a portal resembling the intersection of two water ripples. This threshold invites visitors into an imaginative dimension where water is experienced from underneath, from above, and from within.
Throughout the entire space, floating wavy shapes unveil an underwater landscape. At times these elements interact with Stroom’s architecture as a container, at others they curve inwards and contain, through words and imagery, the many stories carried by each drop of water.
The spatial narrative culminates in a water well—archetypal and symbolic. Positioned at the intersection of necessity and culture, the well represents more than an architectural feature; it is a communal site where, for centuries, societies have gathered not only to share water as a resource but also to exchange knowledge.
